What is a Volvo Truck Key? Keep this key out of the reach of children. If it is swallowed, it could cause serious injury. Volvo Trucks is a leader in the freight transportation industry. It focuses on five key areas that include: Fuel Efficiency, Driver Productivity, and Connected Services. Volvo's Car Key lets drivers set a speed limit for their car prior to lending their vehicle to family or friends. Ignition Key The ignition key is the mechanical part that turns on the vehicle. It also unlocks the trunk and doors. Certain keys can be used for additional purposes like an emergency key, trunk release or liftgate release. Changing the key blade can sometimes cause issues. A locksmith registered with Volvo can cut the new key for you. They can usually do it without the car. Some Volvo keys come with special features such as a red or restricted key. The way the car was delivered to the factory determines which features are available. A dealer can order an upgrade to disable the restricted key functions. VIDA can be used by dealers to do this. You can do this yourself, if you have all the required software and tools. The key fobs are red or orange in the color. They can be exchanged between cars, but the special keys will need their shells to be released before they can be used in another vehicle. Dealers or you can change the keys. Volvo key fobs do not require “virginizing”. Remote Key The remote key lets you open the doors and begin the vehicle. It also allows you to control the locks and activate/deactivate some functions, like panorama roofs or power windows. The key also comes with an exclusive feature that disables motion sensing*. You can order this feature through your Volvo-certified dealer (you must provide proof of ownership), or a Volvo-certified locksmith. This key is marked in orange or red. The key shell release slider matches the color and swapping a new key blade for an old one won't alter the function. Follow truck key programming to program (add) a new Remote. It doesn't need to be an “virgin” key, either. Sit in the driver's seat, with the door closed and press the lock button on your new remote and then the side marker light will blink indicating the key has been programmed. Keyless Entry Key A single press of the keyless entry button locks the car and triggers the alarm. A long press shuts all windows and the panoramic roof*. The key is equipped with a tiny button battery. The dealer can cut you a new keyless entry key, or a locksmith registered with Volvo can as well. They can also program your Volvo keys. You can swap the shells of the key fob and it will function in a way that is interchangeable. Key Fob A key fob is a part of a VOLVO key that has keyless entry and lock functions. It also comes with a panic button that will activate the alarm inside the vehicle. The key fob also has the ability to close your windows and the panoramic roof*. The key fob comes in plastic with silver buttons that match the color of your car. You can swap this shell between keys, but the function will remain unchanged. A dealer can create a new blade for your key fob. A locksmith that is registered with Volvo can also do so however, they might need to see proof of ownership to make the cut. You can also utilize blank keys to copy the emergency blade. However, you will need to program the keys through VIDA in order to use it in your vehicle.
